Buzios is a cute peninsula, some 2 hours driving north of Rio de Janeiro, whose cooler air has turned it into a favourite holiday spot for the Cariocas.

Because it almost never rains in Buzios, the peninsula is relatively dry and you may miss the lush tropical vegetation one expects in Brazil. On the other hand, you have a choice of over 20 different beaches; some very quiet, others with great waves for surfing; some long and straight, others small and protected in a little bay. The beaches on the north are relatively cold due to a cold undersea current that contributes to Buzios’ cooler climate.

Being a mature and ‘chic’ destination, prices of real estate are already relatively high and over the last 2 years have even stagnated a little.

It’s main street, the ‘rua das Pedras’ features lots of cute little shops and restaurants. In season, it gets extremely busy with tens of thousand (weekend) tourists packing the streets; outside of season, however, Buzios is still a very quiet place.
